Scientific Support
In the more than 40 years since chlorpyrifos was first registered with the EPA, it has been one of the most frequently studied insecticides on record. Over 5,000 scientific studies have been conducted on potential health and environmental risks. Chlorpyrifos continues to receive considerable research interest, in part because there has already been a great deal of research on the product (so future researchers already have the groundwork laid for them) and also because, as a result of its broad usage on crops, human exposures to trace levels are common.
But which studies are valid and reliable, and which contain flaws that skew the results? How do we approach our reading of studies — about any product?
The links on the left navigate to summaries of some of the most relevant research regarding human health and analyses of that research by independent reviewers as well as from the perspective of Dow AgroSciences scientists. From those summaries, you can link to or download the full articles. You can also download and print a summary of some of the most frequently-asked questions about chlorpyrifos.
The weight of the scientific evidence supporting chlorpyrifos works in the product’s favor. By providing these analyses of the research, we hope to foster a clearer, more informed picture of chlorpyrifos than has been available in the mainstream press and in the writing of groups opposing the reregistration of the product.
